"Designing Human-Centred Pervasive Systems" - Summer School in cooperation with BEST (University of Patras Chapter)

BEST Patras Summer Course 2014 is taking place in Patras, Greece on 13-23th of July. Together with the students running the local BEST chapter, we organised this summer course involving 24 students from all over Europe. The purpose was to provide an introduction to Ubiquitous Computing and teach the students the process of converting an idea for a mobile app, to a design that can be tested with real participants.

HotCity: Augmenting paper maps with urban social context (Video)

Our work builds on urban social context data, sharing and displaying these in non-traditional mobile interfaces.
We have already investigated the visualisation of urban social context using heatmaps in pervasive displays and native mobile apps.
This latest demo shows our work in augmenting traditional paper maps with 3D artefacts, whose coloration and size is determined by social media data.

Measuring bumps on the road with Android

I used my Android phone to capture some vertical acceleration and positioning data on the road between Athens and Patras, using the AndroSensor app.

I pasted the data into a Google Docs spreadsheet and then used Google's heatmap layers to produce a heatmap of vertical acceleration on the road. I've also added some markers for the locations where the vertical acceleration exceeds 3m/s2.
